Model United Nations
A Model United Nations is a simulation of one of the chambers in the UN. For every meeting, an email is sent out a few days prior to the meeting, informing the members of the issue which will be debated, as well as providing some help with the research. When arriving, the members are either presented with a resolution or asked to write one of their own, and they choose a nation to represent. The members thus argue the views of said nation to their best knowledge, as opposed to their own personal views. The resolution is then discussed and amended through the same (or very similar) procedures used by the real UN, before the “nations” vote on whether or not to pass the resolution.
A Model United Nations simulation provides a unique insight into the workings of the UN, and participating in an MUN is a fun and educational experience.
Aber MUN hosts a Model UN meeting every Tuesday at 6 PM in the Library Seminar Room of the Hugh Owen Library on Penglais Campus. Everyone is welcome to attend.
