TRAVEL
There are a number of ways to get to Aberystwyth, train or coach.
By train:
There are regular train services to Aberystwyth from north Wales and the Midlands (travelling from the east all services pass through Shrewsbury). Please refer to the National Rail Enquiries web site for train times and route options.
By coach:
Please refer to the National Express web site for train times and route options.
By Car to the Marine Hotel:
1) The easiest route is start from Shrewsbury. From there, take the A458 towards Welshpool.
At a roundabout a few miles before Welshpool, take the exit south onto the A483.
Follow this road through Newtown and keep straight on it after it changes into the A470 (near Caersws).
You will pass eventually through Llanidloes, but before you hit Llangurig, the road will split into the A470 (going South) and the A44 (going West). Keep right onto the A44 and carry on.
Continue along the A44 until you run out of road. Congratulations, you’ve reached Aberystwyth.
You should enter the town at the top of a large hill. The university will be on your left. However, continue straight down the hill (Penglais Road) and follow it into the centre of town.
At the traffic lights, the road will lead you round a corner to the left, and follow it around to the right onto Alexandra Road towards the bus station.
Go straight through one roundabout, one set of traffic lights in front of the train station, and a second roundabout by a petrol station.
Pass the petrol station (Mill Street) and arrive at a T-Junction. Turn right and follow the road up the hill to a clocktower.
Pass straight through the junction onto Pier Street. Go down until you hit the sea.
2) If you are travelling from the South, it may be preferable to travel into Wales via the M4 over the Severn Bridge. There is a toll on this road.
Just before Newport, get onto the A48/449 heading North.
After about 13 miles, exit West onto the A40 toward Abergavenny.
Shortly after Crickhowell, take the exit onto the A479.
The A479 flows into the A470. Keep going.
In Rhayader, turn left on West Street, and continue onto Bridge Street (B4518).
Less than a mile onto Bridge Street, turn right onto the Aberystwyth Mountain Road.
After about 15 miles, the B4518 becomes the B4574. Continue straight onto this road (there is the option to exit left onto another B4574. Don’t go that way. You want to start heading North).
Turn left onto the A4120 and pass Devil’s Bridge.
After a while you will start to hit civilization again. Keep on the A4120 until you hit Penparcau Road (A487). Take Penparcau Road.
Continue over the bridge into Aberystwyth, continue when the road becomes Bridge Street afterwards, continue past the clock tower and down Pier Street to the sea.
Turn right at the promenade and follow it past PD’s Diner (a green hut on the promenade).
The Marine Hotel will be on the right. Parking is in the rear (turn right at the next junction and turn right again).

Walking from the Marine Hotel:
Go out the front entrance and turn left. Walk until you see a passage on your left with the big number 1925 above it. Go down that passage.
Turn right at the end and carry on past the town hall and Scholar’s. This should bring you out onto the end of the high street, with a SPAR on your left. Turn left and follow the main road for about half a mile uphill. Yes, this is a big hill. It is a very big hill. Take a break. And then carry on. On foot the walk to Penglais Campus takes approximately 20 minutes.
From Aberystwyth Bus Station a number of bus services regularly travel to Penglais Campus, including the 1, 4 and 5 services.
Also adjacent to the Railway Station is the Taxi Rank.
