Aberystwyth Model UN Conference 2008

Hi all,

As some of you may know, we intend to arrange a large-scale Model UN conference in April. Well, today our website is finally online which means we can start recruiting delegates. We hope to get as many delegates as possible – we will be operating with an upper limit of around 70 people, from Aberystwyth as well as the rest of the UK.
The conference is set to be unlike anything this society has ever done before. This will be a truly impressive Model UN, and we are in the process of securing keynote speakers for the conference. It will be arranged on the weekend of 11-13 April, the opening ceremony on Friday night and committees in session Saturday and Sunday. I would encourage you all to attend the conference, and I promise that this will be an event to remember. I would also appreciate it if you help spread the word by talking to friends who might be interested, especially those who are interested in international politics or have enjoyed (or missed out on) the InterPol dept crisis games.

News from CIMUN XIII

It’s now Monday afternoon, and two of the society’s members took part in the 8th annual Cambridge International Model UN. We had a very good weekend, representing the Republic of France in the Security Council and the ECOSOC. Though the sudden and somewhat dramatic nature of our application was very unfortunate – we would have wanted to see more of our delegates taking part, it was nonetheless a very enjoyable experience. In addition to the verbal punchups of CIMUN, we also enjoyed various social events hosted by the Secretariat of CIMUN. Among these was a committe meal, wherein AberMUN’s Secretary-General tried sushi for the first time ever, while enduring the sound of very poor Japanese karaoke coming from the VIP room in the back.

We look forward to the next conferences which we will attend (unless other conferences take place in between, that will be LIMUN in February), and hope that they will be just as fun as CIMUN XIII.

LIMUN 2007

Many of us Aber MUN members are headed for London International Model United Nations (LIMUN) in February. Read on for more info about the trip.

Hey hey, All you guys are now signed up for Limun – yay! Others may sign up later, but you guys are the original AberMUN crew. It’s on the weekend of the 18th of February and I know it’s not for another month, but as we got the application in early it costs us much less money each!

Tom will be starting to look at accomodation and transport soon, but if anyone has floorspace in London we can use that would be great and much cheaper! The quickest way to London will be on the train, but that shouldnt be too much. Although a Young Person’s Railcard makes it alot cheaper! We will have a few meetings nearer the time too just so we can go over the proceedures and share any research we think will help others! Also if you want to email everyone who’s going then use the address above, but please dont clog inboxes with too many little things – save all the info up for one email as appose to 8!

Right, now here’s the horrible part… money. Delegate fees will be £10 per person, either in cash or cheque (cheques payable to me please). If you could give me the money at the next meeting that’d be great! We have subsidised £5 off your fees now and we wont know accomodation or transport costs til nearer the time, but there’s a chance we may be able to subsidise some of that as well.

Just a quicky to say we now have our countries, unfortunatly we didnt get the ones we asked for – but we do have some quite good ones nonetheless. These mean we get some creative licence with what we say! Oh, and some of the committees were full so they had to reasign a couple of you…

Christmas done, exams ahead

Hasn’t been any updating to the site since we’ve all been busy eating delicious Christmas dinners and studying hard for our exams. Aber MUN is currently in hiatus, but will return once exams have finished. The Christmas Conference was postponed in the last minute, as not enough people signed up. However, we hope to do the conference sometime in the near future. Drop by the site again for more info.
